A youth with mobility challenges due to a rare AADC Deficiency. Like many others, she had tried attending therapeutic arts programs before — but found the conventional painting-and-drawing approach inaccessible and uninspiring. She eventually lost hope and stopped going.
After carefully assessing her hand mobility and preference, therapist Eyvon decided to introduce art journaling as a more adaptable and inclusive form of creative expression. It turned out to be the perfect fit — she was delighted!
In her very first session, her eyes lit up as she explored a wide selection of vintage floral papers, stickers, washi tapes, and butterfly cutouts — all carefully curated and brought to her doorstep by our therapist.
Instead of pressure to perform or paint, she was given space to create from the heart. In her journal, she wrote:
"I am very happy as I meet Eyvon." (a sweet nod to their warm connection) She decorated the page with hearts, sunflowers, and butterflies — symbols of beauty, hope, and growth. The words “BELIEVE” and “I love you” were placed thoughtfully like gentle affirmations to herself.
This quiet moment of self-expression was more than a craft — it was a reclaiming of joy.
A told us she finally felt “comfortable and at ease” and looks forward to creating more positivity and smiles every week.
