Lynn Chang

Marketing Fairy

Lynn lives with a rare genetic condition, Aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase deficiency (AADC), that affects her energy and daily functioning, yet she brings warmth and quiet reliability to the team.

Despite health challenges, she contributes steadily—handling behind-the-scenes tasks like sending reminders on Telegram and creating marketing posters for Soul HeARTful’s social media, ensuring sessions run smoothly and participants feel supported.

When Lynn learned she was being employed as part of the team, her words were filled with hope: “Dreams really DO come true.”

Her journey serves as a reminder that every person's potential can shine when given the right opportunity.

Yao

Art Therapist, Empathy Chief

She helps people reconnect with their inner strength and emotions through the healing power of art.

Her journey began with a Master’s in Film Studies and a career in journalism in China, before she followed her heart to Canada to study Fine Arts and Inclusive Design.

Now, as a Ph.D. student in Art Education, she focus on trauma-sensitive creative practices that support healing across cultures.

With over ten years of experience as an artist, educator, and therapist in both China and Canada, she’ve seen how creativity can ease stress, process pain, and open doors to self-discovery.

Her sessions blend art-making with mindful reflection, tailored to each person’s needs. No art background is required—just an open heart.

Eyvon

Resident Joker, Karaoke-in-Chief and Art Therapist

Eyvon plans and oversees the hangout sessions, blending psycho-education with reflective art, plenty of warmth and jokes.

Trained in art therapy, psychology and counselling, she mentors the facilitating team, helping Lynn, Li Ting and Jane grow in confidence. Known for her humor—often joking about going from “bathroom karaoke singer” to Zoom stage star—Eyvon keeps every session purposeful, empowering, and fun.

Her journey, however, began far from easy. As a child, she was often described as the “odd ball” of the family and was physically abused to believe that girls were meant to “stay in the kitchen and have babies.”

Denied the chance to pursue proper studies when she was young, Eyvon refused to give up.

Finally left her family of origin in her early 30s, in pursuit of happiness and peace with a baby in one hand then books in the other, she embarked on her journey in psychology, counselling, and art therapy— often juggling double modules while clocking practicum hours and working at the same time.

Today, she is a firm believer in shifting narratives and has become a passionate advocate for helping others discover their abilities. She specializes in using a unique combination of art therapy and Rogerian person-centered practice to lift moods, ease depression, and open new pathways of self-discovery.

"Impossible is just a word—with perseverance and heart, every dream is possible."

HeArtful Olive Zoom Workshop

The HeARTful Olive Program is more than just weekly online sessions—

HeARTful Olive was inspired by a team of cyclists who decided to fundraise for Soul HeARTful. Their kindness sparked the birth of this program, and in honour of their support, we invited them to give it a name. They chose Olive—a timeless symbol of peace, resilience, and hope.

Just like the olive tree, which thrives even in the harshest conditions, HeARTful Olive embodies strength, growth, and new beginnings. Through art, peer support, and lived experiences, the program empowers Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) not just to participate but to but shifting the narrative of what’s possible.

'It is a movement to shift the narrative for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). Instead of being seen only as beneficiaries, PWDs here step into roles as leaders, and role models, inspiring their peers and shaping their journeys.'

Through peer support, reflective art, and psychoeducation, the program combines creative arts, psychology, and lived experiences to create safe and meaningful spaces where PWDs can learn, make friends, have fun, and grow together.

How it Works

Weekly Zoom Sessions: Accessible for participants of all abilities to join from home.

Peer-Led Approach: PWDs are trained and mentored, gaining real employment experience while uplifting others.

Engaging Activities: Karaoke, art-making, interactive workshops, and group sharing circles.

Reflective Art Therapy: Guided by professional art therapists to support emotional expression and resilience.

🌱 Why it Matters

For Participants: A supportive and fun community that reduces isolation and builds life skills.

For Co-Facilitators: Employment, confidence, and the chance to inspire others by example.

For the Community: A transformed perspective—PWDs are not passive recipients of care but active contributors and leaders of change.

This initiative was made possible by a group of dedicated cyclists who embarked on a cycling adventure across Japan to raise funds for Soul HeARTful. Their courage on the road, paired with their kindness of heart, became the spark that inspired this program.

At a time when nights felt heavy and uncertain, they brought light, hope, and the reminder that when people come together for a cause, even the steepest climbs can lead to brighter horizons.
